For the past several years, St. Joseph of Arimathea American National Catholic Church has embraced a meaningful tradition in the days leading up to Holy Thursday. In the spirit of the Mandatum, when Christ humbly washed the feet of His apostles, our parish has come together to collect shoes for those in need within our local community.

This year, that tradition once again bore tremendous fruit.

Thanks to the generosity of our parish community and friends, the Shoe Collection Drive in support of Fostering Family Hope in Wallingford was a resounding success. The organization was truly grateful for the large donation we were able to provide. Each pair of shoes represents not only a practical gift but also a sign of care, dignity, and compassion extended to children and families navigating the foster care system.

The Mandatum calls us beyond symbolism. It invites us into action. In washing His disciples' feet, Christ showed us that love is expressed most clearly through humble service. In a very real way, this collection allowed our parish to live that Gospel message. What we celebrate at the altar was carried into the world through the hands of our people.

For many of the children served by Fostering Family Hope, a new pair of shoes is more than a necessity. It is a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported. It brings comfort during times of transition and uncertainty, and it affirms that a caring community stands beside them.

This effort also reflects the heart of our parish. Time and again, St. Joseph of Arimathea ANCC has demonstrated a commitment to meeting real needs with compassion and intentionality. Whether through prayer, presence, or service, we continue to be a community that walks with others in meaningful ways.

To all who contributed, whether by donating, organizing, or spreading the word, thank you. Your generosity has made a lasting impact.

As we continue in the Easter season, we are reminded that the work of love does not end. The Resurrection calls us forward, inviting us to remain people of hope, service, and renewal.

May we continue to follow Christ’s example, not only in word, but in deed, always ready to serve with humility and love.
